The students are enjoying our geometry unit. They are working with pattern blocks to solve puzzles, building with table blocks, using geoboards to create shapes and designs, and using geometric shape stencils to create pictures. They really enjoy the stencils, so if you are looking for something for your child to use to create artwork, the geometric stencils and a good plastic ruler are great. I have a table for six that can all be using the stencils and rulers, and that's the most popular place to be! They would stay there for hours if I could let them!
We read a poem about ducks today. We worked with short u and i after we read the poem. We thought of words that had short u and words that had short i in them and made a list. We also looked in the poem and found words that have multiple meanings. We talked about duck, bill and dive. Ask me to tell you the multiple meanings these words have! We are beginning to talk about different habitats in science. We talked about where ducks would live and what other animals and plants would live in that habitat. We also read a really great book called Mother Bruce, by Ryan T. Higgins. This is a story about a bear who steals some goose eggs and ends up with baby goslings instead of dinner. Ask me to tell you how Mother Bruce tried to get rid of the baby goslings. The kids had a pretty good day, but they were noisy! I think they smell snow... Have a nice weekend! Miss Wolfe
