Today we followed up on learning about George Washington yesterday by learning about Abraham Lincoln.  Ask me to tell you about how these things represent Abraham Lincoln.

We learned about counting tricky collections of items today by learning a couple strategies so we don't count items twice.  We know we can push items away as we count and we know not to count too fast and be sure our mouth says one number for each item we point to.  We learned about counting things we cannot move that may be pictures on a paper.  We know we can count like we read starting at the top and moving from left to right, top to bottom.  We know we can count items in a circle by thinking about the clock and starting at 1 and moving clockwise, saying the last number at the top of the clock where the twelve would be.  We will continue counting tricky collections tomorrow!
In Writing Workshop we wrote out Halloween trick or treating.  We talking about the importance of making a setting in our illustrations, and adding interesting words such as talking bubbles with "boo" in them or using words like "spooky" to add interest to our story.  We shared some of our stories and thought about all the things we are doing as writers that we didn't do when we started kindergarten.  Lots of hard work today in writing!
We began to learn about the Design Process we will be using this week for a couple special projects.  We learned about the word engineering.  We know as Word Birds we need to use the word in our writing and speaking, and to find examples so we can better understand the word.  We watched this short clip that shows an example of engineering, although it didn't have the expected result!
We listened to the beginning of a story called Perfectly Percy, by Paul Schmid, about a porcupine with a problem. Ask me to tell you what Percy's problem is.
Tomorrow we will share ideas and design a way for Percy's problem to be solved.
