Ask Me About Friday, September 2, 2016

Today we went to the media center.  We will go to the media center every Friday, and the children will be able to get one book out each week as long as they return the previous book.  Mrs. Floyd is alone in the library in the afternoons and needs help so she can help children find books and check them out.  If you are able to volunteer to each week at 12:55, Mrs. Floyd would appreciate it.  Her e-mail address is: Joann_H_Floyd@mcpsmd.org

We also went to an assembly to learn about the Bear Necessities, which are our school rules.  The fifth grade classes made up skits to illustrate each of the rules.  They presented a skit of kids following the rule, and then a skit of students who were not following the rules.  The kindergarteners did a great job listening and sitting appropriately during the assembly.

Today we also had a fire drill.  They were a bit like ants all over the sidewalk, and some walked quite leisurely, which was a problem for the classes behind us!  We will get the hang of it soon!  We talked about walking quickly, but not running.  It's really important for the children to be quiet and not yelling over to friends or siblings.  We have a siren and a voice that announces there is an emergency in the building and to leave, so it's not a scary, loud alarm.  We have ten fire drills a year.  Next week we will be having an earthquake drill and an weather drill.  We emphasize staying calm and quiet, listening for instructions, and remembering where to go on these drills.

We listened to a funny book about making friends today.  We listened to You Will Be My Friend, by Peter Brown.  Lucy, the bear in the story, was really anxious to make friends, but went about it the wrong way.  Ask me to tell you what happened when Lucy tried to make friends.
I hope everyone has a relaxing and fun long weekend!
