Today was our first indoor recess day. We played with some special toys we have just for indoor recess, and some toys we use during afternoon centers. We really liked using the Lego Mosaics. We can copy pictures using tiny Lego pieces, or make up our own pictures. We also used Magnetix and a 100 piece puzzle. Indoor recess was fun. Today we learned about adding details to illustrations to help readers understand our stories even better. We read a story called This is the Place for Me, by Joanna Cole and practiced retelling the story in sequence. We found out why it's important to look for details in illustrations because one detail in the story helped us know that Morty the Bear moved back into his own house at the end of the story. Ask me to tell you about it! We looked at details in a painting called The Village Feast to learn more about using details. We are learning about numbers in math. We played calendar bingo and used clues about numbers to cover our numbers on calendars. We talked about wind in science and looked at weather instruments scientists use to measure wind speed and direction. We also looked at photographs and tried to discover how hard the wind was blowing and from what direction it is going. In social studies we are learning about symbols. We are using symbols to make a class flag. We revised our flag today, just like writers revise their writing. We are going to make our own flags tomorrow using symbols that tell about ourselves.

I didn't get to the copier at recess to copy the homework due to the first indoor recess. I wanted to help out to be sure the kids knew what they could use for recess. Look for this week's homework in the folder tomorrow!
