A huge thank-you to Mrs. Bautz and Mrs. Cordell for being our amazing head room parents.  I know the kids had a great time at the party on Friday!  Thanks to all the other parents who helped out as well!  Be sure to check out the slide show on our homepage to see pictures from our Halloween party!

I hope everyone has a great Halloween!  Be safe when you go out trick-or-treating!

I've extended our Scholastic Book Club order due date for November books until November 11.  Please check our homepage for information on how to sign in and order.  Remember, I will not be sending home paper order forms this year.

I will be sending out conference reminder e-mails this week.  Please just reply to confirm your time.  I look forward to meeting with you all.

It's not too late to join our We Give Books campaign!  We have eight families now reading with us!

Enjoy the long weekend!

Students will be getting their picture taken on Thursday afternoon.  Today picture flyers went home with prices and the envelope to return to purchase pictures.  One student dropped their form so if your child comes home without one, please send me a note tomorrow so I can send you another one.
I hope you received my e-mail about We Give Books.  There is a problem on their website which I used to send out an initial e-mail to you about the program.  This morning I sent you an e-mail that explains how to sign up and join our campaign to donate books to Haiti.  There are many great books on the site to read with your child, and books will be added as the campaign goes on.  The kids are really excited about this program!  Thanks for your support!

Today our class formed a team to help the children of Haiti.  We joined the We Give Books campaign which gives a book for each book we read online to children in Haiti.  You can join our team too!  Just look for an e-mail that invites you to join Miss Wolfe's Kinders Rock.  Then for each book you read at home online, a book will be donated to Hope for Haiti, which gives books to children in Haiti.
Red Ribbon Week started today.  The Red Ribbon campaign reminds us to make good choices so we can live a healthy life.  Your child will come home wearing a ribbon or with one in their backpack.  Help your child remember to wear their ribbon every day this week to show they will make a promise to live a healthy life!

Today was our Walk for the Homeless.  We walked around the outside of the school and the fields.  We talked about what being homeless means and how the money donated helps homeless families get help.  The kids had lots of questions so I wanted to let you know they may be asking or talking about homeless people and families.
Monday is the beginning of Red Ribbon Week .  Remember to wear red!

I've released more Scholastic catalogs online for you to order from if you wish.  The website is http://clubs.scholastic.com/cool/login.jsp and our class log in is GVFLD.  I will not be sending home the paper catalogs so all ordering will be done online.  It's an easy site to navigate with lots of great books to choose from.  I'll release new catalogs each month, so watch for future announcements or you can just check the scholastic site from time to time to see what's available for our class.
Our kindergarteners are making great progress and have really settled in to school very well.  This morning I was in training, and I snuck down and checked on our class and they were working so well and using such great manners with our substitute teacher.  I was so proud to see them listening and following directions so well.  Thanks for your continued support!
More to come soon!

Today we learned about calling 9-1-1 for help.  We talked and learned about what was a 9-1-1- emergency and how to call.  We took turns dialing 9-1-1 on our Promethean Board.  This topic was a little scary for some children, so please talk with your children about 9-1-1.  We will continue to talk about it over the next couple days.  We are building a word wall in our classroom.  Word wall words are important words we need to know how to spell, read and write "just like that!"  We have practiced writing to, go, the, it and can. In the afternoon we practiced making sculptures out of clay to represent American symbols.  We made sculptures of the Statue of Liberty, the American flag, the Liberty Bell, and the bald eagle.  We are going to make sculptures again later in the week and let them dry so we can paint them.
We are working hard to learn to take better care of our classroom tools, supplies and toys.  We are also making sure we take better care of our classroom library.  Many books are being torn and put in the wrong places.  We know we need to put things back in their proper place so we don't waste time looking for them.  We are also learning to use paper to practice writing, and not just scribble on and throw away.

Watch our websites for updates over the next couple days!
