Today we started a mini-health study about nutrition. We studied paintings of Giuseppe Arcimboldo that pictured people made of food. We identified some of the food and why it was a choice for where it was used in the painting. We listened to Gregory the Terrible Eater, by Mitchell Sharmat, and practiced retelling the story. We talked about why Gregory's parents thought he was a terrible eater. FYI, Gregory is a goat! Ask me to tell you how Gregory learned to eat other kinds of food.
We talked about My Plate, a visual that helps eaters think about what they are eating and how much of each food group. Here's a picture of My Plate. We sorted foods into food groups and studied a poster that showed how different foods help different parts of our body. We know that's why it's important that we learn about the food groups. Ask me to tell you two foods from each food group..
No discussion of healthy food would be complete without a visit from Captain Vegetable. In fact, you might even need to watch it twice!
We will have our January Birthday celebration on Monday. Time for warmer weather and some sunshine so we can get these little friends outside! They have been real troopers through all the changes this week!
Have a nice weekend!
