We have had a very busy two days! We began talking about fiction and non-fiction texts. We read two books about wind; one was a fiction book and the other was an information text. We looked at how these books are the same and different. We will be continuing to learn about information texts over the next few weeks. We took time to look at the Stretchy Snakes again to use as a tool when we are writing. The purpose is to encourage the children to stretch out the words. I think when we used them initially, they were worried to use them because they thought I might take them away if they used them as a toy! So we worked with three and four letter words and practiced using the snake, saying the word slowly, listening for how many sounds we heard, and matching the sound to a picture and letter on their alphabet strip. They did a great job, and it also gave me a chance to reinforce using lower case letters. Today the children went to the Book Fair. They are bringing home wish lists of books they would like. The Book Fair is open tonight, in the school library, from 6 - 8 PM. The children can also bring money tomorrow to buy any books on their wish list if you would like them to. The book fair closes tomorrow at 11 AM. We also got individual portraits taken outside today. The children were posed in many different poses, so you will get a variety of photos to choose from when the are posted and ready to view so you can decide if you would like to buy. We started to talk about tally marks in math. We collected data using tally marks. This is another way to show numbers so the children are learning to keep four together, and tie them together with a fifth stick. Here's our data from our question today. Ask me to tell you about the tally marks. (They will probably tell you they didn't work and I had to move all their choices!!!)
Have a nice evening! Miss Wolfe
