Today we studied photos of different kinds of caterpillars.  We were looking for differences and similarities.  These caterpillars are a little more interesting than the mealworms we will be studying for the next few weeks!  We will be watching the life cycle of the mealworms as they change in darkling beetles.  
In math today we worked with counting on from numbers from 1-6.  We counted on 0, 1, 2 or 3.  The kids are learning to start with the number that comes after the number, for example we rolled a die and got 5, and counted on two more so we started with the number after 5 and counted on 6 and 7.  We will be working with this concept as we play some games with dice, with one die having 6 numbers, the other a 1, 2 or 3.  We also worked with showing teen numbers on ten frames and changing them to show a different number.  Students needed to think about whether they needed to add to the ten frames or take away.  
I continued testing in reading.  The children are doing a great job of working hard and being quiet as I test.  Today we used the Chromebooks and the children got free choice on ABCya.  
Your child is bringing home a project to be done at home over the next couple weeks.  As we watch our plants and mealworms change, we will be talking about humans also grow and change.  Your child will be making a timeline of their life.  I provided examples in the homework, as well as directions on how to work on the project so it reflects your child's work.  I know this will be a fun project and I look forward to seeing them in a couple weeks.  Please do not send in the projects early.  We don't have a lot of storage space right now and I don't want anything to happen to them! This is the timline of my life, although it needs to be updated, as well as my baby picture added.
