I'm sending home exhausted little friends today!  We had a very busy day.  We had a fire drill this morning.  We talked about the fire drill yesterday and learned what we need to do and not to do.  For the first fire drill of the year, they did a really good job.  Ask what I need to do and not to do during a fire drill.
We worked on our autograph books today.  I sent them home even though we didn't go through all the pages together.  We will continue to learn about the people who work in the school, but I sent the booklet home so you can read it with them.  You do not have to return it to school.  The children may want to color it and finish the pages we didn't get to.
We had outdoor recess today for the first time.  Mrs. Bedell and I were outside covering recess, and we can tell you it was pretty hot, but the kids ran around and played.  There is shade on the back playground, which is where all the children decided to play.  I told the kids this was a one-time deal, but because so many of them were already tired from the week, when we came in I gave them small bottles of water and let them stretch out on the carpet and watch two episodes of Peep and the Big Wide World.  We will not do this normally, but the first few weeks of school are a big adjustment, and listening to and learning new routines is hard.  
Thank-you for helping us with Show and Tell.  Most of the kids who shared used a strong "everybody" voice.  They remembered how they were named.  The kids were able to guess who many of the babies were and enjoyed the pictures as much as I did!  
The first week of kindergarten is full of excitement, but also a lot of listening and learning routines.  Next week the days will begin to be more routine as they have learned the routines well already!  I will begin testing the students in reading so we can get started with reading groups.  
I told the kids I would post this How It's Made video.  We watch these short clips from the show at the end of the day when the students have packed up and are ready to go.  Today it was interrupted with announcements, so I'll post it for them to watch with you if you want!
