The data collection for the KRA State Assessment is completed.  Probably anyone in the Bells Mill area around 11:40 today heard the cheers from my classroom!  Now I get to enter the 1,600 scores into a spreadsheet on the computer for the state.
We really had a great day!  We visited with Mrs. Kanter this morning and learned about asking others to play at recess or politely saying they would like to play some other time.  The children role played how to answer friends when they would either play alone or play with someone else.
We had a bubble filled day.  We read a poem about bubbles and illustrated the parts, read a favorite story called Big Bad Bubble by Adam Rubin, and learned about talking bubbles in writing.  The kids wrote simple three page books with a story that had an obvious beginning, middle and end.  The kids used talking bubbles in their stories.  I didn't get a chance to see all of them so I will be sending most of them home next week, along with other some other work that I need to grade and enter into our grade book.
We had an important lesson about self-control today.  We learned that having self-control means stopping yourself from doing something or waiting to do something. It's hard when you really want to do it and have to stop yourself!  We did a little simulation with bubbles to illustrate what self-control is; I used a bubble sprayer and sprayed a stream of bubbles over the kids, telling them they could not pop them with their hands or any part of their body.  Most of them did a really great job with that, but were sooooo noisy!  So then we did it again, and this time they had to remain quiet and not pop the bubbles.  They did an awesome job!  We have a big bottle of Self-Control Bubbles on my desk as a reminder to use self-control throughout the day.
We spent time outside playing with bubbles.  The kids had a great time and I think I got some good pictures that I will add to the site later tonight or tomorrow, so please check back for updates.
Ask me about self-control today and the bubbles!
Enjoy your weekend!
