Ask Me About Tuesday, October 7, 2014

We had another self-control lesson today.  We read the book Oh No, George!  by Chris Haughton.  This book features a dog who really wants to do the right thing, but is still learning self-control.  He is very sad when his owner comes home to find out what he did when he was away.  This is a great book to talk about self-control, taking responsibility for actions, and remembering that self-control is something that we can get better at as we learn and grow. Ask me about what trouble George got into!
We also talked about American symbols, monuments and memorials, and heroes.  We focused on the military. Some of the children shared about people in their family who are in the military or have been in the military.  We will be constructing our own military monument with symbols to recognize the members of the military in our families.
We played a game in math today called Capture Four.  It is a strategy game as well as a game to practice subitizing; knowing a quantity by looking and not counting each thing.  To find out more about subitizing, please visit our math page under curriculum.

Tomorrow is Walk to School Day.  Remember that we will be meeting at Cabin John Middle School.  Please arrive by 8:50.  Bus students will be dropped off at the school and we will all walk together to Bells Mill.

Have a great evening!
Juliet
