Ask Me About Thursday, October 2, 2014

We had a pretty good day today, getting lots of testing done, but with a tiny bit left to do tomorrow.  But then we will be done and our celebration will begin.  It will be a bubble-filled day!

You will find a Read to Me, Talk to Me book in your child's backpack.  The books are due back on Tuesday, October 7 so I can get them ready to pass out again on Wednesday.  As I said yesterday in my blog, the most important part of Read to Me, Talk to Me is your child listening to you read to them. The discussion questions in the back of the book are meant as a guide.  I DO NOT expect you to write the answers and send them in to me.  The questions are meant to guide your discussion, not as a test.  These books are to be kept a week so you can read them a couple times with your child.  We want the children to understand that rereading is important to deeper understanding of texts.  The project is a fun thing to do with your child, but not the most important part.  Please don't worry if you don't get to it this week!

We listened to a Pete the Cat story called Pete the Cat and the Magic Sunglasses. Pete learns an important lesson about looking for good in every day.  The trailer for the book is on our Arts page so be sure to check it out!  We learned about The Statue of Liberty today as well.  We started to analyze the parts of the statue.  We will continue this lesson next week.

Ask me about the bus evacuation drill today.  All students participated in the drill to learn what to do in the event of an emergency on the bus.  They got several compliments about the way they walked to and from the drill.  Good listeners on the bus as well.
Enjoy the evening!
