Monday is Parent Visitation Day.  We hope you can come and see just what happens in kindergarten each day.  Approximate times of what you will see are below:
Our schedule will be:
9:15  Good morning!
9:20  Handwriting
9:35  Shared Reading/Word Work
10:00  Independent Reading
10:15  Literacy Stations and Reading Groups
11:00  Writing Workshop
11:40  Read Aloud
11:55 Recess
We hope you can spend part of the morning with us. Please know that we will try and have as typical a day as 25 kinders can with an audience.

Just a few things to help make the day go smoothly:
During Literacy Stations you may work with your child.  They are anxious to show you our stations.
Please do not take movies or videos.
Please set cell phones on vibrate.
We hope you take this opportunity to talk with other members in our community, but please do not have conversations in the classroom.
If you bring coffee in with you, please take it with you or throw it in the trash in our classroom.  Every year we find cups around the classroom, and we have had spills and one little friend who sampled the coffee they found.

We talked more about self-control today and how our body is like a car. Sometimes, our engine starts running faster and faster, we get carried away, and it makes it difficult to stop, think and make good choices.  We talked about what that feels like, when it sometimes happens, and strategies to use to slow it down.  We talked a lot about breathing, and even practiced a little meditation.  We talked about making good choices in seating to be sure we picked a place where we can be good listeners or where we can make good choices.  In the lunchroom, for example, I had been noticing a lot of kids at one table, and few at the other table.  Sometimes we all just need a little more space, so we talked about spreading out kids have more personal space.  We will continue to revisit this topic and will be looking at the Bells Mill Six Star Expectations more closely beginning next week during our class meeting.

Have a great weekend!
Juliet
