Today we had a class meeting to talk about being bossy.  Lately, we have had many children bossing other children around and sometimes confusing them about what they are supposed to do and who to listen to.  We talked about what being bossy sounds like, looks like, and feels like.  It's important the students know whose directions they need to follow.  We also talked about the difference between being bossy and being helpful.  The tone of voice is really important to notice the difference, as well as word choice.  We decided if you are trying to help someone you need to tell them in a friendly way.  We also talked about the consequences of being bossy.  When children think you are being bossy they are going to stop wanting to play with you because their choices and ideas are not being valued.  We ended our meeting with compliments, thank-yous and apologies.  I'm so proud of the way our class has been working so hard to take responsibility for their actions.  When we have had some problems, we often have kids taking responsibility for their part of it, and that is a very brave thing to do!  Ask me about our class meeting!
