We had a great first day today in kindergarten! Thank-you to our families for sending children to school who were so excited and ready for a great day! We worked hard to learn what the routine means, then we learned about our morning routines. Ask me to tell you about what I need to do every morning when I come in to the classroom. We also began learning about our school rules. This year, our school rules are called The Bear Necessities. Of course this means I have to play the song The Bear Necessities to introduce the rules! Today we talked about using kind words and being safe. We talked about what being kind looks like, sounds like and feels like. Tomorrow we will talk more about being safe in the classroom, school and playground.
We also read a story about school called This School Year Will Be the Best, by Kay Winters. In the story, children made wishes for their school year. Some of the wishes were very funny, like a water fountain that had chocolate instead of water! Then we drew a picture to illustrate a wish we have for our school year. We spent time getting to know each other. We passed The Talking Fish and found out the names of our classmates and their favorite place on Earth. We will continue to pass The Talking Fish this week to learn more about each other. We spent time playing today too! Ask me to tell you what I did during play time! Have a great evening! Juliet
