Ask Me About Tuesday, April 14, 2015

We had a great trip to Rose Hill Manor today, despite the rain!  We visited a log cabin, the blacksmith shop, an ice house and root cellar, and the main house.  We learned about what life would be like in the log cabin.  Ask me to tell you about how living in a log cabin would be different than living in your house!  We learned about what a blacksmith makes and saw some of the tools they use.  Ask me to tell you something I saw in the root cellar.  In the main house, we learned a little about the family who lived there.  We visited a room that had some carding tools and a spinning wheel.  The kids got to try carding and did a great job learning how to pull the cards in opposite directions.  We visited the kids bedroom and played with toys for children long ago.  Finally, we stopped in the kitchen and saw how people long ago cooked their food.  We sampled popcorn made over a fire and had a little drink of water with mint in it.  Ask me if I liked it!
Due to the rain, we didn't get to picnic at Rose Hill or play outside.  We came back to school and had a picnic in the room.
I will be putting pictures from our trip up on our homepage, so please check there later this evening.

A huge thank-you to Mrs. Coleman, Mrs. Pierre-Louis, Mrs. Siegal, and Mrs. Cheri for coming along on our trip to help.
