Today we started our spring reading testing.  Students will be reading one on one with me, answering oral comprehension question, and some children will be doing written responses as well.  We read Jack and the Beanstalk today.  We used our Word Bird Strategies to figure our unknown words, or words with multiple meanings that were being used in a different way than we knew.  We focused on verbs and and did a Word Work Out to act out the way the characters moved in different parts of the story.  Ask me to show you how to burst into a room, wriggle, creep and sway.  Today we worked on using our notes we collected about animals to begin writing our animal reports.  Before lunch, we watched a fairy tale from South Africa, told and sung by Pete Seeger, called Abiyoyo.  This fairy tale is always a favorite of kindergarteners.  I'll attach the video so you can have a look too!
We're bringing home a game today called Counters in a Cup.  This is a great game for finding the missing part of a number.  Ask me to show you the instructions and how to play this game.  We practiced making ten because we know ten is a "big shot" in math!
Have a nice evening!
Juliet
