Today we worked with short vowels.  We reviewed all the vowel sounds, but then focused on short o and u.  We made the short vowel sounds and noticed what our mouth was doing and where the sound was to help us identify the short vowels in words when we are doing our writing.  Ask me to show you my short e Elvis face!  We worked with fact versus opinion today too.  We listened to a song from You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown called Little Known Facts that Lucy sings.  She has all kinds of wrong information, and sings very silly things that are not facts at all!  Ask me to tell you one thing Lucy says that is not a fact at all!  Then we played That's a Fact Jack!  We read statements and decided whether it was a fact or an opinion. We had a lot of fun!  We began work on our Rose Hill Manor report.  We zoomed in on one part of the trip, for example the cabin, and wrote about what we learned there.  In math, we worked on combining sets and comparing them.  We played Double Compare with dice and practiced counting on 1, 2 or 3.  We used ten frames to keep track of points and told our partner how many more points we needed to make ten.  We visited Virginia today on our Read Across America journey.  We read Where Was George Washington by Carla Heymsfeld.  This book shows many of the same items in the Rose Hill Manor home also in Mount Vernon.  We also had time for a quick story called The Goat in the Rug, by Charles Blood and Martin Link.  We made text-to-self connections since we have carded wool now ourselves, and text-to-text connections with the book Charlie Needs a Cloak.

Don't forget, tomorrow  your child can bring one toy to school tomorrow to display in our Toy Museum for the day.

Enjoy the rest of this beautiful day!
