Our kinders are off to a great start this year! They did an amazing job today with the technology. They are learning to unmute and mute quicker, and most children seem comfortable talking online. We worked on answering questions in complete sentences today. We also started a few routines we will use throughout the school year. One routine we have is our Picture Talk time. This is a time where children study a paining, photograph, or quote and talk about it. We start off very general and just talk about what we notice. If we were in the classroom, children would turn and talk to a partner before they shared with the whole class. Since we are not able to do this, I have decided that they can have a study partner. They can choose a stuffed animal to use for turn-and-talks. So when I present the image, they will first think about it, then talk to their study partner, then I will ask them to share with the whole class. Today we studied this painting. Ask me to tell you what we noticed in this painting. I shared five pictures that each told something about me. I had the children look at the pictures and tell what they knew about me from the pictures. We wrote captions to go with the pictures. Your child can do the same thing to share with the class so we can get to know each other better. Watch for an e-mail in your child's Gmail inviting them to join our classroom, and you will find this activity in there as an assignment.
We talked about the word routine today since we will be learning many new routines over the next few weeks. Ask me to tell you what a routine is, and show you the picture I made of two things I do as part of my bedtime routine. We listened to the story "You're Finally Here!:" by Melanie Watt. This is a funny story about a bunny who is tired of waiting for someone to read his book. The bunny goes through several different emotions as he tries to find out where the reader was and why he had to wait for them. Today was Sunglasses Day. The kids looked so cute in their shades! Tomorrow is Favorite Color day, so the kids should dress in their favorite color. Have a nice evening! Miss Wolfe
