Happy New Year!  Today we started our day with Talk Time.  We talked in small groups about our Winter Break!  We stuck to talking about what we did instead of "what we got."  We enjoyed hearing Carole King sing about Chicken Soup with Rice.  We watched a video with the text to the book and listened for words we didn't know.  We used two strategies to figure out unknown words; we used clues from the pictures, and we thought about what would make sense in the "story."  We are getting to be really great Word Birds!

In Writing Workshop we talked about writing for an audience.  We talked about what an "audience" would be for writers.  Then we talked about how we can write, fix up our writing, and revise our writing so our audience will understand our stories and information.  We will be working on adding details and fixing up our writing this week.  
We worked with ten frames in math in the computer lab.  We also learned to open a folder and click on a link to go to a website.  
It sure was good to be back together!  I should have taken a little movie of the kids arriving this morning!  They were so happy to see each other, and I had a line of friends at my desk waiting patiently to tell me their Winter Break stories!
