We started our day studying these photographs and thinking together about how they go together. We determined these were scientists. We are starting science this week and will begin by learning about scientists and engineers Today as we talked about these photographs and what we noticed, we shared what we would like to study if we were scientists. Ask me to tell you what I would like to study if I were a scientist. We took an assessment today in our reading program to look at our fine motor skills and drawing lines and shapes. Later in the day we practiced drawing circles being sure to start just below the top and off to the right a bit, and pulling back and around. We also used the chaining mats that go with the program. For this we got used to placing counters in a box, going from left to right, for each word we heard in a sentence. We listened to a really great new book called Woo Hoo! You're Doing Great! by Sandra Boynton. This book is so good! It's a rhyming book that encourages us to try our best when learning new things. If you're looking for a book for a gift or to add to your family collection, I highly recommend this one! And if you are hearing a lot of woo hoo's around your home tonight, you are welcome! Today we had a lesson about emotions and feelings. We read A Little Spot of Emotion. This book illustrates the body language and the facial expressions we do and see in others that help identify and label feelings. We looked at a very big poster of feelings and emotions, then zoomed in on the emotions the book focuses on, which are anger, anxiety, peaceful, sadness, happiness, love, confidence and scribble (Tangled).. We practiced how our face would look and what our body language would look like with some of the emotions. We know that naming how we are feeling helps others to help us and for us to help ourselves. This book came with little plushies, and we passed around a basket with the plushies. The children chose one and identified it and provided an example. They did a really great job with this! Here are a few pics of the children with the plushies. In math, we practiced sorting collections of items. Groups of 3-4 children were to work together to sort the objects, not just grab some of the items and sort them on their own. This was the biggest challenge, but work we need to do so we can learn to collaborate with others. The children did a sort then were told to find another way to sort the items. It was difficult at first, but once they saw how they could work together they did better on the next sort. I sanpped a few more pictures of the children working hard together. Today was a really good day. We got through more of the curriculum because we are getting these routines down.
Have a nice evening! Miss Wolfe
