It was great to see so many of you at Back to School Night.  I hope it was helpful!

The children are doing a great job of learning our Picture Talk routine.  We studied these pictures to try and find out how they are the same.  That was really hard, so I gave a clue that the way they are all the same has to do with how they move.  Hands went up immediately and many of the children knew.  Ask me to tell you how they are all the same.  We also took time to name what the animals are, so your child should be able to tell you what the animals name.  Then, we talked about an important part of learning is to remember things.  I had the board go blank, and the class worked together to name all nine animals.  One thing we learned is that we need to listen to others and not repeat what they said.  It's very typical for kinders to repeat answers at the beginning of the year.
I did some testing today.  The testing is 1:1 so the other children practiced making circles.  We looked at some artwork, and I modeled and the children practiced using different colors.  There pictures are really great so I'm going to hang them up in the room for a while.  The important part of making a curve or circle is to not start at the top but off to the right a bit, and to pull back and around to the left, then close up the circle.  Although we are not working with the letter o, I used a letter video to practice with the children using their finger in the air, then on the carpet.  Here's the video in case you would like to make circles with your child.
We worked with the Rekenrek today.  We learned about where to start with the beads, and to start and move the beads back to the left in the top row first.  We practiced showing numbers, and we then counted the words in sentences moving a bead for each word.
We read the very popular There's a Bear on My Chair, by Ross Collins today.  This is a book with many words in it that rhyme with bear.  We listened for words that rhymed with bear, many that were a little tricky to hear and words that were unknown to the children.  But they sure love this adorable story!

I hope you have a great weekend!
